Have you ever been on a beach with sand so brilliantly white and water so passionately blue that it moved your spirit and sparked your soul?
Pomato Point, Anegada, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the Day: “On soft Spring nights I’ll stand in the yard under the stars – Something good will come out of all things yet – And it will be golden and eternal just like that – There’s no need to say another word.” – Jack Kerouac
Daily gratitudes:
A lovely day
Getting the knee-high grass one-third mowed with the push mower
Air conditioning
Old friends

It will be some time before I can return to Anegada, and I miss it. But I am thankful for the blessings in my life here every day, even for the rain.
Anegada, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the Day: “He learned to read the ocean by a cupful. He also learned to regard each port of call as part of the journey and not as the destination. Every voyage begins when you do.” – E.L. Konigsburg
Daily gratitudes:
Pink shoes
Puddles
Music
Snoozing on the bus

I do not spend my life wishing for things that I cannot have (right now), but as the rain falls, along with the temperature, and snow starts to swirl in the darkness, it does not hurt to remember that there are places like this. I remember this morning. It was warm, with very little breeze, just enough to make the palms trees whisper in that special language that they have, and I was standing on my little balcony in Marina Cay, watching this single sailboat wend its way out into the channel to have adventures.
Marina Cay, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the day: “It is the tenderness that breaks our hearts. The loveliness that leaves us stranded on the shore, watching the boats sail away. It is the sweetness that makes us want to reach out and touch the soft skin of another person. And it is the grace that comes to us, undeserving though we may be.” – Robert Goolrick
Daily gratitudes:
MKL
A light day at work (after two months)
Turquoise
Head tilts
Listening to the rain before it turns to snow (10 inches of snow)
Today was a big day, a day of big changes, and while all change is scary, this one feels like a door has opened instead of closed. I like that feeling. It’s scary and exciting. I am hopeful.
Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the day: “There’s nothing wrong with reading a book you love over and over. When you do, the words get inside you, become a part of you, in a way that words in a book you’ve read only once can’t.” — Gail Carson Levine
Daily gratitudes:
Peaceful partings
Journeys
New beginnings
My Kindle
Public transportation on days when the roads are bad
It has been an in-depth day, which I will share later, but visions of water and beauty have played a large part, as they do in all of this lovely world. And so tonight, I share this with you.

Marina Cay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the day: “Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering its a feather bed.” – Terence McKenna
Daily gratitudes:
Leftover mounds of snow that look like purposeful sculptures
Chickens roaming in yards
Journeys
Learning
KaVita Probiotic Sparkling Coconut Water
It was cloudy here today, lowering clouds that made my spirits droopy. But I lay on the grass and read while MKL tried to get one of the fleet to start, so all in all, it was a lovely day. It would have been nice to have been laying on the sand at Long Bay Beach, but we did squeeze in a little sun. This Long Bay Beach is by the Beef Island Airport, and is not well-known, so it is never crowded. It has deep, soft, white sand, and a snorkeling trail, and you have to venture down a muddy road to access it. It’s a quintessential Caribbean spot.
Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the day: “Be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn. In that case, you should always be a unicorn.” – Elle Lothlorien
Daily gratitudes:
Grass
Finding special gifts for people you love
Storm clouds
Grits
Vivid dreams
Yes, I am homesick for Anegada again. For sand, and sun, and turquoise water, for floating off Cow Wreck, and diving for conch, and walking for miles without seeing another soul, except for stingrays cruising in the shallows. For water from freshly cut coconuts, and for lobsters in their cages, and for Lauren and Linda. For days that drift by like seabirds, and nights that sound like the breeze in the palm trees.
Neptune’s Treasure, Anegada, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the Day: “Her grandmother used to tell her that a pink sky meant someone in the distance had just fallen in love . . . .” – Sarah Addison Allen
Daily gratitudes:
Outpourings of goodness
That Dutch is stil hanging in there (hence, the pink quote)
When Thunder Cat makes herself into a ball on the bed
Having MKL to snuggle with
Meeting some wonderful people today
Ninja tacos
Well, our massive blizzard fizzled before it happened, but it has left unseasonal cold in its wake, with temperatures dipping to eight tonight. With the wind chill, it will feel like -7. Brrr. So I will think of Anegada, and how different a storm is there than here.
Anegada, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the Day: “So we shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?” – Hunter S. Thompson
Daily gratitudes:
Being cozy at home with the cat
Poetry
Not having to shovel the sidewalk
MKL
Kelsea
The encroaching storm in this image is very different from the one that taps against my windowpane tonight. Mine is a fix of snow and rain and frozen stuff. The wind chimes are dancing to accompany the tinkling sounds of precipitation on the grass. Despite their dulcet tones, I would prefer to be on this catamaran, watching the water reflect the sky.
Pomato Point, Anegada, British Virgin Islands.
Quote of the day: “The snow was too light to stay, the ground too warm to keep it. And the strange spring snow fell only in that golden moment of dawn, the turning of the page between night and day.” – Shannon Hale
Daily gratitudes:
A warm day before the storm
My slumgullion stew
Squirrels scolding something in the night
Music in my kitchen
How fortunate I have been to travel
Remember this not only because it is beautiful and a beautiful place, but because we are about to be swallowed by spring snow one more time here in Colorado. Sigh.
